Chamber of Commerce President Mike Huber Was Speaker at HUNI Annual Meeting on Saturday, February 8, 2014

Michael Huber will be our speaker for the HUNI Annual Meeting on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the Firefighters Union Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Michael was named Indy Chamber President and CEO in August 2013 and will bring us his insight on the relationship between the Chamber and historic neighborhoods. 

Our thanks to the Chatham Arch - Mass Avenue Neighborhood for hosting the annual meeting at the Firefighters' Union Hall at the corner of east St. Clair Street and Mass. Avenue (just west of the intersection with College Ave.) The entrance is the middle door facing St. Clair. Attendees should go to the board room on the second floor for the meeting. Prior to the Indy Chamber of Commerce, Michael was Senior Director of Commercial Enterprise at the Indianapolis Airport Authority. In that role, Michael oversaw the Authority’s businesses and revenue generating units, including development of its land and facilities, air service development, parking and retail operations, and marketing. 

Previous to his work at Indianapolis Airport Authority, Michael served as Deputy Mayor for Economic Development for Mayor Greg Ballard beginning in 2010.  As Deputy Mayor, Michael worked to help current and prospective Indianapolis companies grow and expand, ran a large urban redevelopment portfolio, and drove large-scale efforts to improve the City’s infrastructure.  Michael managed projects including the sale of water and wastewater systems to Citizens Energy Group which produced $450M in infrastructure capital, the lease of the City’s metered parking system, the $156M CityWay project in partnership with Eli Lilly and Buckingham Companies, the redevelopment of Bush Stadium, and various other transactions.  From January 2008 to March 2010, Michael served as the Director of Enterprise Development, where under the Mayor’s direction, he implemented enterprise-wide business transformation initiatives, including the Mayor’s IndyStat performance reporting tool which improved City services and reduced costs across the enterprise. 

Prior to joining Mayor Ballard’s team in January 2008, Michael worked in Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels’ administration for three years.  He served as Deputy Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Administration (Jan. 2007 – Jan. 2008) where he managed State government services including real estate and leasing, print and mail, and logistics and warehousing.  He was Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Government Efficiency and Financial Planning Team from January 2005 to January 2007.  

From 2008 to 2011, Michael was a member of the Associate Faculty of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI), where he taught a course in public and nonprofit sector performance management in the Spring Semester. 

Prior to Michael’s work in government, he worked in management consulting, with a focus on state and local government.  He has an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Bloomington (2005) and a BS in Social Policy from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL (1998). 

Michael serves on the boards of the Arts Council of Indianapolis and Stopover Inc., and is a musician at St. Mary Catholic Church.  He and his wife Helen have a three year old son and two month old daughter; they live in downtown Indianapolis.
