Irish Hill


The boundaries of Irish Hill are:

  • North:   E. Washington Street
  • South:   Railroad tracks near 250 Shelby St. (properties on both sides of Bates Street)
  • East:     N. State Street
  • West:    S. College Avenue 



In the late 1800s, an influx of working-class Irish immigrants settled in Indianapolis and established Southeast's Irish Hill neighborhood. Early residents were well known for their hard work, interest in politics, and religious devotion. Today, the Irish remain one of the largest ethnic groups in Indianapolis
