If it seems like only last year that HUNI joined others, including the Holy Cross Neighborhood, in advocating for the protection of the namesake Church of the Holy Cross ("Holy Cross Church"), you're not alone.
In April 2024, the Holy Cross Church was designated as a historic site by the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission, thus sparing it from the wrecking ball.

The close of a year brings the opportunity to reflect upon the past and anticipate the future. As my tenure serving as HUNI’s Editorial Board Chair ends after 15 years, I am confident the HUNI team is prepared to provide members and visitors to our site with information and resources important to maintaining and preserving the architectural fabric of—and the quality of life in—our historic neighborhoods.

The City-County Council unanimously passed Proposal 349 on Wednesday, January 8—the culmination of a year-long process to respond to the State House Roads and Transportation Committee chair's request that the City "work something out" with the billboard industry.
While this is a win for downtown and near-downtown neighborhoods, the work here is likely unfinished. The billboard industry still considers Indy "under-billboarded" and their special-interest lobbyists are busy applying pressure to state legislators.
The Indianapolis Propylaeum, as part of their Historic Preservation Series, hosted a presentation on the career of Jim Kienle.
Jim practiced architecture for over 60 years and affected the built environment locally, nationally, and internationally. He influenced the economic success of towns that he worked in as well as the work of other architects. The program will portray the stories of how Jim came to be an architect and throughout his career as one of the foremost preservation architects of his time.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission (MDC) voted in favor of designating the church a historic site.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission (IHPC) voted unanimously in favor of both Declaratory Resolutions 2024-R-01 and 2024-R-02.
On Monday January 29, despite overwhelming opposition from residents and businesses, the Senate passed SB 52, a bill authored by Sen. Aaron Freeman that would place a moratorium on dedicated lanes projects while a study is conducted to determine its viability.
